Filling Materials

Ideal Lightweight Fill

As a lightweight fill, foam glass aggregate can address many of the challenges that the infrastructure world faces today. Foam glass gravel is used as lightweight insulating fill in cases of soft soil support, embankments, mechanically stabilized earth walls, retaining structures, and subgrade for roadways.

Foam glass gravel’s material properties uniquely position the material to solve pervasive issues in construction. Foam glass gravel is made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. This gives it a unique sustainability footprint with incredibly low embodied carbon when compared to other lightweight aggregate fills, such as Geofoam, expanded shale, Perlite, and cellular concrete. In many cases, it’s also less expensive than alternative fills.

Multifunctional Applications For Filling

Subslab Insulation

Subslab Insulation is a core component of building construction that contributes to comfortable indoor temperatures while reducing energy consumption. As a subslab insulator, foam glass gravel is used as a two-for-one replacement for rigid foam board and heavy quarried crushed stone aggregate. It can be used beneath structural footings as well as on the exterior of a stem wall for additional insulation. HUAYUE® CFGA1060 Closed Cell Foam Cellular Glass Gravel can perform as insulation, drainage, and high load-bearing capacity in industrial, commercial, and residential installations.

Green and Walkable Roof Fill

HUAYUE® Foam Cellular Glass Gravel is 90% lighter than traditional gravel aggregate fill. Installing foam glass gravel as fill for a green roof reduces building strain and increases the ability to build creative landscapes. Foam glass gravel can also be compacted at in slopes up to 45°. This gives landscape architects the ability to introduce slope and creativity into designs.

Soft Soil Support

As lightweight aggregate fill, HUAYUE® CFGA1060 Closed Cell Foam Cellular Glass Gravel is used to stabilize embankments and reduce load settlements on soft soil areas by replacing soil or other heavy aggregates to alleviate settlement and strain on surrounding areas.

Gabion Walls

HUAYUE® foam glass granules can also be used as gabion fillers. Due to its relatively large and homogeneous granule size (10-60 mm) it is suitable for such applications. These types of applications are also supported by the material’s light weight (150-175 kg/m3), that significantly eases execution as well. Also, the structures made with it have sound-absorbing properties, due to the close cell structure of the material.

Cover For Liquid Manure Reservoir

Due to their very light weight, when applied to the surface of liquids, HUAYUE® granules float and seal them to a large extent. This sealing significantly reduces evaporation and consequently the odor load as well. When the liquid is pumped out, the granules do not need to be removed from the reservoir as they move along with the falling level of the liquid, and when the liquid is topped up, they rise with the liquid level. As HUAYUE® granule is 100% glass, it is highly resistant to acid-alkaline media.

HUAYUE® foam glass gravel provides unique solutions to many issues faced by industry professionals. Engineers, architects, designers, and contractors alike can benefit from the many product attributes that make foam glass gravel stand alone compared to other lightweight insulating fills for solutions to a variety of the civil world’s problems.
